First, what does this long word mean? Geo—the earth, pathogenic—creates illness. Geopathogenic Zones (GPZs) are formed in places of pressure and changes of a structure of the Earth's crust.

They are caused by a geological and hydro-geological structure of territory — tectonic breaks and cracks, deposits of ore, oil, sites of karsts cave formation, underground water streams passing at different levels, paleoriver valleys, places of rise of subsoil waters to a terrestrial surface, etc. that give off terrestrial radiation, which have negative effects on a person’s health, ultimately leading to the development of disease.
